8 minutes south of Barrie and just 45 minutes north of Toronto on Hwy 27 in the old village of Thornton lies the historic 1854 Queen's Hotel building, brought back to life with rustic wide plank floors, mineral-infused walls, antique wood beams, and vintage trim and fixtures.

Whether you're a vegan or just like a tasty, healthy meal, we've got the menu if you bring the appetite. Our slow-fresh-cook kitchen does not own a microwave, and prepares your meal fresh each time. Because of this, your wait in the dining room may be longer than you are used to in most restaurants. We are breaking the mould for restaurants, and are offering a new type of restaurant experience. 100% organic, top quality, ethical, and gluten-free ingredients, and attentive service taking into consideration your health issues.  Our house staff are highly trained and if they do not know the answer to your question they have access to expert nutritionists to help educate and inspire you to seek the healthiest alternatives on your special night out. 

Our dining room is considered casual fine dining, so you can come dressed to the nines or in your more casual attire. As long as you have a smile and an appetite, we look forward to serving you!

Whether you crunch down on a big boisterous salad, warm your soul with a bowl of organic soup, or sample one of our savoury entrees, you're sure to feel like you've had a real home cooked meal, the way it was made back in the day. With one exception:  we're 100% gluten-free.

And while you're taking care of your inner gastronome, you can also do a little inner work of a different sort, in one of our yoga studios. A great menu begins with fantastic all-organic ingredients, carefully sought out to be the freshest, most natural, and ethically-sourced stuff we can get our hands on. Our menu is mainly vegan, but where goat cheese or organic eggs are an option, we visit the farms and make sure that the animals are treated like first-class citizens, not like slaves in a factory.

Great ingredients are then carefully prepared with herbs and savoury flavours to yield a light, nutritious, and scrumptious meal that leaves you feeling nourished and satisfied.

Our menu is designed by a holistic nutritionist and a world-class chef. The result is a menu that tantalizes your palate, while taking care of your body and spirit at the same time. Both our food menu and our elixir bar have items where the ingredients are so healthy we are able to make medical claims regarding their benefits.

But we would never compromise on taste. Because at the end of every meal at Vidya's Veggie Gourmet, we want you to feel the healthy buzz, but leave with memories of just how delicious it all was.

KIM VIDYA

HOLISTIC NUTRITIONIST

As a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (R.H.N), and holistic health practitioner (HOL), Kim has led hundreds of local Simcoe residents on her "10 Day Rejuvenation Cleanse" program, yielding life-changing results from countless participants.  Kim oversees the menu at Vidya's, ensuring it maintains a balance between nourishing foods and comfort foods, always in good taste with the highest quality, and ethical ingredients.

Kim's name "Vidya" was given to her by her yoga guru upon graduation. It is a sanskrit word meaning "wisdom/knowledge". When Kim founded Vidya Yoga & Wellness in 2008, she named the studio accordingly, thus naming the restaurant "Vidya's Veggie Gourmet" was a natural extension of a thriving community. Kim is also a Vipassana meditator, a Certified Yoga Teacher and founder of The Vidya Centre For Yoga & Wellness.

In choosing ingredients for the menu, the first emphasis is on organic. Virtually every single item in our kitchen is organic, from cooking oils, fruits and veggies, grains, flours, and even our spices. 

Our kitchen is 100% gluten-free. Our Cuisine Soleil organic gluten-free flours are also tested for gluten content below 5 ppm.

Most items are vegan, but where organic pastured eggs or organic goat cheese is used, they are identified on the menu.
